Yes – if you are booking with Dollar and planning to travel between islands, you can take your car on the Cook Strait ferry to get between Picton and Wellington (or vice versa).

The minimum age to rent a vehicle is 21 years of age with a full licence.
Provided you have a full licence, there is no maximum age for rental.
Yes, it’s $11.50 (incl GST) per driver, per rental and is arranged at vehicle pick up. All drivers must be present to show their drivers licence at the time of collection.
You can hire snow chains and/or ski/board racks during the winter period (1 June – 31 October) at South Island locations. You can add these when you book your vehicle or add them to your rental at time of pick up if available.
The cost to hire both snow chains and ski/board racks is from $12 excl GST per day ($13.80 per day incl GST) or $60 excl GST ($69 incl GST) for 5 or more days. For North Island skiing we recommend hiring from a trusted supplier at the base of the mountain.
We do not take cash payment, however, we do accept Eftpos and most major credit cards, full payment will be taken at vehicle collection. Please remember that the credit card holder must be present at the time of collection. A 2% +GST fee will apply should a credit card be used as payment.
We take a bond of $250 at the time of pick up.
Our selection of coverage options gives you the choice to select the option that allows you peace of mind while you travel. You can choose your coverage level while you make your booking.

Our first concern if you are involved in an accident is your personal well-being. If you do happen to be involved in an accident, you should do the following:
All vehicle repairs must be conducted with the formal approval of your nearest Dollar branch.
We provide free 24-hour mechanical Roadside Assistance. In an emergency, breakdown or accident call 0800 525 525.
Dollar’s Roadside Assistance does not cover non-mechanical defects such as lost keys (or when you find your keys but they’re locked inside the car). The same goes for when the battery is flat due to the lights being left on, when you’ve got a puncture etc.
The good news is that you’re still eligible to receive assistance. But you’ll need to cover the call-out fee.
