Feel renewed on a Christchurch adventure. The largest city on New Zealand’s South Island also happens to be the newest city in the world. Christchurch has gone through massive urban regeneration and rebuilt itself better than ever. You’ll love the mix of established gardens and historic buildings standing alongside the latest modern marvels. Old industrial districts have been made over to become creative shopping and eating precincts. Urban life is constantly evolving and thriving here.

There’s lots of fun in the air – with colourful street art to follow by trail, restored heritage tram rides, and a trip in the unique Christchurch Gondola. Strap yourself into this 4-seater glass box and enjoy 360-degree vistas – right across the city to the waters of the Pacific and Pegasus Bay. Take in the snow-peaked Southern Alps. Gaze at the patchwork farmland of the Canterbury Plains. Come back to earth at the Red Rock Café. But if you want to live it up a little, book an intimate dinner with a difference on the Tramway Restaurant. This historic tramcar was built in 1927 in Melbourne – a city still reliant on its trams today. Tour the heart of Christchurch on tracks while feeding on New Zealand’s fine wine and local cuisine.

If you prefer to sightsee by water, punting on the Avon is another popular Christchurch attraction. This scenic river meanders through the bustling city, past the lush Botanic Gardens, and beautiful tree-lined banks. Float back in time as you glide gently along the stream in an Edwardian-style punt. All you have to do is sit back and relax. This is what vacations are all about!

When you’re ready for more activities, Christchurch is centrally located to explore the highlights of the South Island. Your hire car will easily help you get familiar with this lively city of 380,000 friendly locals, and the stunning scenery beyond.
